Investment in new Palamides Delta703
All-automatic delivery system for rational production by folders and gang-stitchers with paper banding system.
It permits simultaneous delivery (vibration, counting, pressing, banding) of several copies, including different copies, for instance on the folder and gang-stitcher.
Different versions can be identified by using differently coloured paper banding.
This delivery system will ensure optimum utilization of the upstream units and make production distinctly more reliable (no confusion of grades).

Relaunch Bahruth Druck und Medien
Bahruth Druck und Medien GmbH & Co. KG was relaunched on 9 January 2009. In Dräger+Wullenwever print+media GmbH & Co. KG, Bahruth had found the right partner to successfully continue the jobbing printer's longstanding tradition.
With its awareness of tradition, Bahruth had always found it particularly difficult to meet declining prices and the drop in orders by laying off its workers. For a long time, the company hoped to find a soft and socially acceptable answer to its problems.
Unlike global players who close entire factories even as profits rise, Bahruth sought to offer its employees a perspective for the future, but it waited too long.
Bahruth also did not attempt to rescue the company by paying cut-throat wages. Jobs worthy of the people who fill them, in a good social environment, have always been a matter of importance to Bahruth. Ultimately, this could only be realized with a partner from Lübeck who valued the location in Reinbek, was interested in preserving jobs and eager to demonstrate stability. Tradition and proximity to the market in Hamburg are the factors driving the comeback in Reinbek.
Through this partnership, Bahruth can profit from the Lübeck company's know-how in media design and particularly its data processing and logistics support. The range of possibilities is based on the requirements and objectives of our customers, including modern technology and individual service.
In a network with other service-providers, Dräger+Wullenwever has developed webshop systems for print customers, including a large warehouse for finished goods in order to make up and dispatch preprinted products or the giveaways with which they are to be combined within the space of 24 hours. A 30-minute drive on the A1 motorway is all that separates the two companies and allows Bahruth's customers to share in this range of services, too.
In press terms, the partnership has produced two fairly new 5-colour presses with coating unit in 3B format, as well as an 8-colour and a 4-colour press, both with turning systems.
Two well appointed bookbinders in Reinbek and Lübeck ensure that orders are completed quickly and smoothly. Cutting capabilities up to and including the full 3B format round off our claim of concentrating everything in one place to ensure quality and punctuality.

Reaction to logistic requirements
New delivery truck with lifting platform increases flexibility. An additional 7.5 tonne truck with lifting platform has been ordered. Logistic requirements increased yet again in 2007, prompting us to make this investment in order to ensure flexibility and more efficient realization of tricky delivery schedules. D+W now has three delivery trucks operating in the metropolitan area of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

New apprentices
Due not only to the renewed distinction awarded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in Lübeck, D+W are committed to making their contribution towards a better standard of training in our society. New apprenticeships for printers, media designers and bookbinders are once again being offered for 2008. All the newly qualified trainees in these three vocations have been offered jobs with the company, thus ensuring that we will not suffer any shortage of qualified young people.

Open House dominated by ecology and print quality
More than 100 visitors and almost all of the company's over 100 employees took up the company's invitation and celebrated its new market image, its investments and the PSO certification document which arrived on the same day. The celebrations took place in the colourfully decorated printing shop, between the three 70/100 Speedmasters.
In the course of the day, two guest speakers addressed the visitors on the subjects of colour management with ISO profiles and the use of FSC-certified papers. Dräger+Wullenwever acquired FSC certification in April and are proud to be able to make their contribution to the ecologically beneficial use of wood and paper.
Managing director Thomas Ertl opened the evening gala with musical accompaniment with an outline of the troubled situation still facing the industry and stressed that, despite all the vagaries, Dräger+Wullenwever have boosted both the value of sales and profits for the past four years and are doing everything to adapt the technology and workflow in line with the new challenges. In Mr. Ertl's opinion, this success is to a decisive extent attributable to the outstanding motivation, qualification and flexibility of the company's employees.
New CI
Three years after the merger between Lübeck's largest printers Wullenwever and Dräger Druck, the company has now adopted a new, complete CI. After months of hard work, the new image brochure has finally been printed and put the new 5-colour CD to the test with a whole variety of paper grades and grammages.
D+W with FSC certification
A matter of course for D+W: ecological responsibility.
D+W received their FSC certification on 2 April 2007. The paper we use for our customers' orders is produced from renewable forest plantations; our own production complies with the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), in order - among other things - to prevent the denudation of tropical rainforests. We are particularly pleased when our customers order FSC-certified paper. Almost everything in the art printing sector can be printed in an ecologically beneficial manner and at optimum cost.

Small offset now also installed at D+W
Installation of the Heidelberg SM-52-2 marks the beginning of small offset printing for D+W. This machine now covers the segment for small print runs, 1- and 2-colour commercial printing and envelope printing. The machine has been working at full capacity ever since the very first day.

Boost quality with the new 5-colour CD
Installation of the new Speedmaster CD 102-5L from Heidelberg. With this new machine, Dräger+Wullenwever have taken another step towards better quality and printing thicker paper. Like the other printing presses, the new machine is connected to the pre-press workflow and Image Control in order to build up colour quickly and safely. The decision in favour of the "CD" instead of the faster "XL" - nominally rated 3,000 cycles faster than the "CD" - was due to the fact that the "XL" uses a different plate format from that of the other currently installed machines. This would have considerably limited the flexibility of our print planning. In addition, the new CD includes a coating unit with chamber doctor blade to meet every possible coating requirement.

Digital printing system also for "heavy" paper
For the first time, Xante Ilumina allows us to print grammages of up to 400 gsm using digital processes. This is particularly advantageous when printing greeting cards and business cards where stock guidance used to cause problems at grammages of just 200 gsm.
With our other digital printing systems, we are now in a position to laser-print more than 200,000 A4 pages per day.
